Call for abstracts

Dear Colleague,

We are pleased to announce that abstract submission is now open for the XIII International controlled and modified atmosphere research conference, that will be held in Leuven, Belgium, August 16-18, 2021. The call for poster presentations is still open until the 15th of July 2021.

With the theme of the conference being ‘Fast Forward to a Fresh Future’ we aim at creating a unique exchange forum for discussing recent progress in scientific knowledge and industrial development of controlled and modified atmosphere technology for fruit and vegetables.

We particularly solicit contributions for the following topics:

  • Physiology of hypoxia
  • Modelling and simulation of CA/MA
  • Role and effects of ethylene and 1-MCP
  • Quality effects of CA/MA
  • Understanding, detection and control of CA-related disorders
  • Sustainability of CA/MA technologies
  • Developments and applications in dynamic CA
  • Smart MA packaging
  • Working principles of coatings
  • Testing of CA/MA for specific cultivars
  • Postharvest treatments in relation to CA
  • CA/MA in transport

The deadline for abstract submission for posters has been extended to July 15, 2021.


During each ISHS Symposium two Young Mind Awards for junior scientists are given, one award for the best oral presentation, and one award for the best poster. Students, junior scientists interested in participating in the ISHS Young Minds Award should indicate this when submitting their abstract by ticking the appropriate box available in the abstract entry page. By indicating his/her interest in the ISHS Young Mind Award the junior scientist confirms to meet the criteria for participation and agrees to accept the terms and conditions. For more details:
